Maturity, Variety, Unity

Greetings to all of you from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.  Our family appreciates both the warm welcome from around the world and your prayers for each of us as we step forward through transition and move back the United States to Tupelo, Mississippi in the coming weeks.

Yesterday I had the privilege of preaching at our church in Ethiopia – International Evangelical Church.  The message was from 1 Corinthians 12:1-13.  I believe the message is timely for our worldwide family at Global Outreach International (GOI).  The central themes from this passage of Scripture are about Maturity, Variety, and Unity.

Take a close look at verse 7:  “To each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.”

Brothers and sisters in Christ – each of us who believes and lives out the truth that “Jesus is Lord” (v 3b) is empowered by the Spirit with individual gifts that are purposed to both make God visible and do good for others.  Be encouraged!  God has placed you where you are today both to do good and to make Him known among the nations.

My deep desire for you is that you stay the course and keep on keeping on as we all continue the process of growing up in Christ together.  Let us mature in our faith and walk together.

Our excitement builds as we contemplate the variety of gifts, services, and activities through which each of you are working to collectively make God known.  What a joy it is to see how we accomplish this work for the common good together, collectively, and in unity

This past week I spent time in Soddo, Ethiopia at the Christian Hospital where our GOI team members are teaching and serving.  It was abundantly clear that the Spirit of God was being manifested and made known through the good work these friends are doing with their gifts of healing, wisdom, and faith.  Let us pray for Hannah, for David and Julie, for Mark and Allison, for Jonathan and Jess and for their family members as they seek to serve and manifest the Spirit in the season ahead.

On Wednesday I will travel over to Uganda to see many of our GOI friends and I look forward to seeing all the ways that we are showing the Spirit and being a light to the world in that country and in each of the communities where we are invested.

Maturity, variety, and unity.  Let us continue to grow up together and make the Lord Jesus known to the nations through all our various gifts!

Blessings and peace, Steadman
