Position Overview

The Director of Finance leads the day-to-day financial operations of Global Outreach International (GOI), ensuring accurate and timely accounting, payroll, payments, missionary finances, reporting, controls, and compliance. The role leads the Finance team and turns the COO/Integrator’s financial direction into consistent execution, reliable information, clear priorities, and strong processes.

The COO/Integrator retains primary ownership of the annual budget, annual audit and Form 990, Board-level financial reporting, and major financial decisions.

Core Accountabilities

Oversee accounting, payroll, accounts payable, reimbursements, missionary payments, and recurring Finance deadlines.

Manage the monthly close and deliver accurate, timely financial reports and analysis.

Lead, coach, and hold the Finance team accountable for priorities, workload, and results.

Oversee missionary financial administration, controls, documentation, and policy compliance.

Maintain reliable financial data, documented processes, cross-training, and continuous improvement. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee general accounting, month-end and year-end close, payroll, accounts payable, reimbursements, missionary payments, and related records.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements, dashboards, reconciliations, and supporting analysis for the COO/Integrator.
  • Monitor cash, restricted funds, missionary accounts, and significant variances; identify and elevate risks or exceptions promptly.
  • Support budgeting and forecasting by preparing schedules, gathering information, monitoring results, and explaining variances.
  • Prepare and send annual donor giving statements and coordinate related donor financial communications.
  • Maintain effective accounting practices, internal controls, and documentation consistent with GAAP, nonprofit requirements, IRS rules, ECFA standards, and applicable laws.
  • Prepare audit schedules and documentation and coordinate Finance-team responses under the direction of the COO/Integrator.
  • Maintain Finance policies and procedures and provide appropriate training to staff and missionaries.
  • Monitor relevant accounting and regulatory changes and recommend needed process, policy, or system improvements.
  • Oversee missionary support accounts, salary and ministry-expense disbursements, budget amendments, and financial compliance matters.
  • Ensure accurate data and effective use of Financial Edge, Virtuous, payroll, banking, and related systems.
  • Coordinate financial system improvements and integrations with Operations, vendors, and external partners.
  • Provide clear, service-oriented financial guidance and training to missionaries and Home Office teams.
  • Lead regular Finance operational meetings and maintain relevant scorecards, Issues Lists, To-Dos, and Rocks.
  • Translate organizational priorities into clear weekly work plans, measurable outcomes, and individual accountabilities.
  • Document and strengthen core Finance processes to improve consistency, cross-training, and continuity.
  • Provide supervision, coaching, and performance feedback in coordination with the COO/Integrator.
  • Partner with department leaders to solve cross-functional issues and support effective mission execution.

Performance and Ministry Alignment

  • Demonstrates Get It, Want It, and Capacity for the role and consistently meets agreed Finance scorecard and Rock expectations.
  • Raises issues early, identifies root causes, and participates constructively in IDS (Identify, Discuss, Solve).
  • Models GOI’s Core Values and contributes to a healthy, accountable, and collaborative culture.
  • Demonstrates personal commitment to GOI’s mission, affirms its Statement of Beliefs, and handles sensitive information with integrity and sound judgment.

Development Over the First 24 Months

The Director is expected to grow in independence and judgment in financial analysis, forecasting, risk assessment, budgeting, audit coordination, Board-level reporting, and long-range planning. Expanded responsibility will depend on organizational need and demonstrated readiness and does not guarantee promotion or a specific timeline.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business, or a related field.
  • Five or more years of progressively responsible accounting or finance experience, including supervisory, team-leadership, or significant workflow-coordination responsibility.
  • Strong working knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, budgeting, financial reporting, audits, and relevant tax and compliance requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage recurring deadlines, improve financial processes, communicate financial information clearly, and escalate issues appropriately.
  • Proficiency with accounting platforms and standard office technology.
  • Willingness to fully engage GOI’s EOS tools, meeting rhythm, mission, Statement of Beliefs, and Core Values.
  • CPA, MBA, graduate degree, or comparable advanced training.
  • Nonprofit accounting, fund or grant accounting, or ministry/missions experience.
  • Experience in a multi-million-dollar organization.
  • Experience with EOS or a similar operating system.
  • Experience with Financial Edge, Virtuous, or comparable financial and CRM systems.
