Catherine Morris
I have been serving in Uganda for 5 years. Currently I am serving with Hope Empowers Ministry in Nabukalu, about 1 hour from Kampala. God has led me to focus on one specific ministry, Jajjas for Jesus, which reaches out to the vulnerable people in an area of 6 villages who need to know about Jesus.

Why Jajjas?
Jajja is a term for grandparent although we welcome anyone who wants to join our fellowship. In the villages, older people are spread out and sometimes have very little interaction with others. Many have lived there all their life, and their standard of living is below the poverty level. If they cannot walk well, they become isolated. We have found many lonely people. They come for fellowship and find laughter, love and Jesus!! Many were depressed before coming and now they have smiles and peace and JOY!
Also statistically, although people over 60 only make up 2.5% of the population; they care for 14% of orphans and vulnerable children. Often their children have had to go to the cities to work and leave grandchildren to be cared for by Jajjas. A lot of our Jajjas care for multiple young children. It is a very hard life!

The majority of ministries in Uganda are focusing on children because the need is so great! But the Jajjas are rarely focused on. We started with 3 Jajjas and our program has grown to almost 100! God is truly moving and growing our ministry. This ministry fills my heart to overflowing!! I would love to include you in my newsletter and updates.
