Danny and Katy met on an evangelism mission trip on the Ecuadorian coast when they were 16 years old. They developed a longstanding friendship and later were married in 2012 at the age 23.
Both of them have served at Hacienda El Refugio, in Calacalí, Ecuador as facilitators since 2006. Danny started working full time in 2009 and Katy in 2016, and both believe in the mission of extending the Kingdom of God by using his creation as the main classroom.
Hacienda El Refugio “exists to be a training and retreat center, which facilitates a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ through nature and outdoor adventure.”
Danny is the Director of the Retreat programs, an area focused on designing and personalizing adventure programs for groups from churches, high schools and families with the intention of helping them grow closer to Jesus. In addition, he is in charge of the construction and maintenance of all outdoor adventure elements (low and high ropes). He is also certified as a Wilderness First Responder, and holds a certificate in Ministerial Management and Integrative Leadership.
Katy is in charge of El Refugio’s finances and manages all billing and financial transactions. She also mentors students in internship programs. In addition, she is finishing her Theology studies, with the goal of sharing her new knowledge with interns.
They have two kids, Abby age 7 and Aaron age 5.They are so happy to be able to share in community with the ministry, staff, interns, facilitator.
