Drought Relief Kenya
Kenya is in the midst of a severe drought. It is reported to be the worst drought in 40 years. The rains have failed for four consecutive growing seasons in Kajiado County, an area inhabited by the Maasai.
Currently, there is little to no grass for the cows, goats, and sheep, which is what the Maasai depend on for food and income. There have been scattered rains in November; however, it has been very little in most places.
This has caused a huge crisis as people have no money to buy food, and they are unable to grow food. People are eating one meal a day, but often even miss this meal. The most vulnerable are dying from lack of food and hopelessness as they see no end in sight to their suffering and the drought.
We have been training pastors at two locations in Kajiado County over the last year and a half. Our goal is to provide food to the Maasai communities through these pastors and the churches they lead. We will buy ugali (maize flour, which is the staple food) and beans to deliver to the churches for them to distribute to their local communities.
